What is Health Coaching?

A health coach is a supportive mentor who partners with individuals to help guide and motivate you towards healthy lifestyle behaviours, and to help you achieve your health goals.  Put another way, it's like having a personal trainer for your overall health!

There is a strong body of evidence that health coaching works. Health coaching takes an individualised approach based on your needs, goals and risk factors. It takes into consideration your specific motivations, concerns and barriers in order to find a plan and path forward that works.

Health coaches help you break down big goals into small regular steps that are specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and timely. Having someone to report back to means you are more likely to follow through actions. Research shows that social support makes people more likely to stick with behavioural changes.

  • Educate you about your health and how to make changes that will support you in the long-term.
  • Provide guidance to help you break through the brick walls, allowing you to continue moving forward on your health journey.
  • Keep you motivated and accountable.
  • Keep the balance between the big picture, and the detail. Everything can contribute to health - including nutrition, activity, personal relationships, employment satisfaction, and more!

The aim of health coaching is to empower each person to take charge of their health.  When we feel more confident, motivated and knowledgeable about our health and well being, we become more successful in making healthy choices, adopting behaviour changes,  and navigating obstacles in the long run.


Not Motivated to do anything?

This is a big issues that most of us face many times in life. We get stuck in a rut, and can't (or won't) get out!

The result is that we stop striving to grow. Our goals go unachieved, we feel more miserable & less fulfilled each month. Some of us do this for DECADES!

The wonderful thing is that motivation is not the key. ACTION is the answer to take us forward. This also doesn't need to be big, just consistent. This lowers the bar, and makes it achievable for all of us!

Like building a towering building, building a firm foundation of baby steps can lead to the biggest action.

I've got news - You are not being selfish looking after yourself first. Taking care of yourself better allows you to give your best for those you love and care for. This mindset shift may contradict all your beliefs.

If you slowly do more for yourself you'll find you can do more for others, take it on and test it yourself!
